Description | In the undergoing fundamental transformation of the Czech society, the most striking change which is obvious even to a layman is the emergence of wealth as a basic form of social power. Simultaneously tranforming poverty is becoming a challenge to the new elite. The basic process, where the nature of poverty in Czechlands is changing is its transformation from friction transitory and private poverty into poverty which is long term (permanent, fixed) and "public". Poverty determinants are being transferred from the sphere of family life cycle and family structure into the sphere of the position on the job market and in the social stratification. Poverty is being "ecologized" pockets of poverty, where poverty is the attribute of space, are appearing. Poverty is becoming a reference point of the building of welfare state in the post Communist Czech society. The protection of families from falling into destitution is of a great importance now: First, for the assurance of social justice. Second, for the protection of the political passage of the economic reform. Third, for helping to release the job market. Nevertheless, some difficulties with the constitutions of welfare state as regards poverty in the Czech society could be expected. |
