| Description | After 1948, the triumphant communist ideology established new order not only on the political and social scene but also on the artistic one. Its power fell on Czech literature, among other things, by the persecution of artists, who were sentenced to years in prison in trumped-up trials. The paper is devoted to selected Czech prose whose authors have a personal experience with a communist prison and have artfully planted it in their work. In the first part, we focus on the description of genres such as prison or camp literature. Along with this will be introduced writers who are their representatives (Jiri Stransky, Karel Pecka, Jiri Mucha and Dagmar Simkova). The second part will point not only to the unifying signs and motifs in this type of prose, but the focus will be on finding a motive of happiness. We will turn attention to its various forms, artistic depictions and, last but not least, provide a comparison across the selected prose of Czech writers. |
