Description The article discusses the discovery of a stone mould from Panenská Street in Brno which is particularly unique for its motif. The central figure of the mould is a knight on a horse with a shield and spear evoking the figure of St. George, but in reality it is probably a tournament scene with a reference to chivalric romances. The mould was found at the bottom of a cellar in the basement of what was once probably a residential building near the town wall. It is made of Cretaceous plaener, and its dating was established on the basis of the archaeological context and iconographic analysis to the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Based on the analysis of medieval heroic romances, we believe that the motif on the mould may have been inspired by the literary production of the time. The article centres on the analysis of the iconography and the possible literary models of the motif itself.
