Description Self-awareness is based on feedback from significant others on our performance. In the case of repeatedly unsuccessful Matura examinees, self-awareness was also shaped by their grades during high school studies. As they did not notice any significant warning signals during that time (e.g. the need to repeat the grade), they thought that their knowledge was sufficient and they were ready for the Matura exam. The surprise for them was that they repeatedly failed the Matura exam, which is supposed to test basic knowledge.
