| Description | The paper deals with teachers' memories of changes in primary education after 1989. The post-socialist transformation is presented in oral history interviews by many teachers as a stage when disappeared the negatives of the socialist period (ideology in education, overblown bureaucracy). At the same time, positive characteristics of school life from the past persisted (parental support and respect for the teacher) and have not yet occurred the effects of later (from the teachers' point of view) non-systemic changes leading to an increase of other duties at the expense of education (among other things, the abolition of the uniform curriculum and the associated need to create own teaching plans). The 90s thus forms an imaginary ideal time to which it is possible to relate. However, this image is often drawn out and strengthened significantly by current immediate experiences (teaching during a pandemic, current school reforms, and presentation of the teaching profession in pop culture). The paper will therefore present interpretive challenges arising from the context of conducting oral history interviews with teachers. We will briefly mention the research methodology and data collection. The presentation is based on the current GAČR research project Post-socialist transformation of primary schools – processes, stories, dilemmas (project no. 20-11275S). |
