Description Web-based open online courses allow universities to offer educational content to a broader audience than courses taught in conventional LMS systems. However, they have the disadvantage of limited access to student behavioural data provided by traditional LMSs such as Moodle. This paper reviews more than five years of experience in measuring user learning behaviour in open web courses (in Umbraco, WordPress and other CRMs) and their potential use for the design of educational content and the form of these learning materials. For better data interpretation, Google Analytics and Smartlook tools are used for measurement and other research methods (interviews, questionnaires, test results, self-evaluation). The methodologically oriented paper will be based on several micro-case studies focused on courses at Masaryk University in Brno.
