Description | MOOCs, which were supposed to represent the future of open education, have failed to live up to expectations and are heading towards gradual marginalisation. Connectivism has not become the dominant educational theory and school computers are still dominated by Windows. Open educational resources look better on paper than in practice. Looking at concrete examples, it may seem that the open approach in education has failed and exhausted itself completely. Yet we believe that it has caused a number of positive shifts and changes that may not be as visible, but are changing the whole educational landscape in a much more significant way. At the same time, we believe that our insights and contexts from education can easily be extended to other areas where open source is not quite as successful at first glance. |
