Description This paper deals with the seals of the noble family of Liechtenstein from the mid-16th century to the end of the 18th century that can be found in the fonds of the State District Archive in Břeclav based in Mikulov. Individual seals (35 pieces in total) are described in terms of their external features and in the form of a catalogue. The main part of the seal is the heraldic component which makes it possible to trace the development of the Liechtenstein coat of arms from a simple divided shield to the division of the shield into several parts which fi rst incorporated the insignia of the acquired estates and Silesian duchies or the coats of arms of extinct families (Kuenrings, Lords of Boskovice), and later also territories claimed by the family on the basis of kinship ties (Rietberg, East Friesland).
