Description | The murals in the chapel were created by Josef Stern (1716–1775) in 1756. The recently completed restoration of the paintings has permitted a detailed analysis of their stylistic aspects and become an impetus for finding and specifying the painter’s sources of inspiration. The reconstruction of the iconographic programme of paintings in the chapel have showed, that the ideological programme clearly emphasizes the purity and immaculateness of the Virgin Mary and focuses on Mary’s virtuous and godly life. The creator of the iconographic concept, with its strong didactic charge, including a completely unique form of the scene of the Betrothal of the Virgin Mary, could hypothetically be the superior of the foundation, the Baroness Anna Constancie Miniati of Campoli, née Žalkovská of Žalkovice. The search for the creator of this unique iconographic concept opens up the hitherto little-known question of the patronage of women within the church environment. |
