| Description | ...and the light was on! "Electric light, an unrestrained demon", the title accompanying an October 1889 Judge magazine cartoon. Electrification was on the rise and involved also theatrical buildings and lighting devices. In this paper we will focus on electrical devices used in theatre production. We shall look at the work of Hugo Bähr (one of the first theatre lighting devices engineer) and will use a few examples to show how lighting devices worked in practice. |
