Description | This contribution explores how negative attitudes and migration aspirations towards the West reproduce and strengthen in the context of mass economic emigration from the Pomoravlje region in Serbia. The Gastarbeiter, as pioneer migrants, created strong social capital and transnational ties in the imagined West. The region has many characteristics of the culture of migration that evolved around the guest workers’ experience. These phenomena enable the paradox to reproduce even in the current migratory flows. These phenomena can also be responsible for delayed future trajectories and reproduced permanent temporalities that were observed in the region. |
