Description The purpose of this review study is to provide a comprehensive account of the potential use of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Inventory (MacArthur-Bates Communicative Inventory) screening questionnaire in published research studies. This theoretical study will focus on the use of the English version of the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Questionnaire. The aim is to analyze published research studies in which the MacArthur-Bates questionnaire has been used as a tool to predict language delay in children between the ages of 2 months and 36 months. The research studies will also assess the reliability of the questionnaire. The PRISMA method was used to find appropriate studies. The PRISMA method as reported by Page et al. (2020) allows for the use of a minimal set of items to produce systematic reviews and meta-analyses in line with evidence-based theories. Thus, the criteria for the search items were language development delay, developmental language disorder, MacArthur- Bates Communication Development Questionnaire, parental education level, the effect of specific educational needs on performance on the Communication Development Questionnaire, parental socioeconomic status, and reliability. A total of 2563 studies were retrieved, and after excluding duplicate and studies not containing search criteria, 15 studies were identified that met the criteria used in this synthesis. The main aspect measured was data on vocabulary production. Results showed that less than half of the scores on the Communication Development Questionnaire were compromised by one or more of the variables analysed. This study concluded that the Communication Development Questionnaire scores should always be examined and analyzed in more detail in relation to the variables of interest.
