Description | In a total of 16 curse texts (8 Greek and 8 Latin), the persuasive analogy refers to the material of the curse tablet itself, its location or the manipulation to which the tablet as a whole is subjected. In both Greek and Latin magical traditions, the most common comparatum is, unsurprisingly, lead, the metal of choice for ancient curses with the greatest proportion. Lead was used as a comparatum as early as the 5th century BC. |
