Description | The thematic unit Reptiles, most often discussed in natural history in the seventh grade, is a problematic unit due to the very limited personal experience of the students with this animal taxon, which is also associated with many misconceptions and at the same time very diverse attitudes, especially towards snakes. It is indisputable that targeted teaching can influence students' knowledge of the topic being discussed, and as shown by the work of Mgr. Monika Baďuříková, by choosing appropriate teaching methods, and above all by teaching contact with live reptiles, it is possible to influence their attitudes, or change the negative attitudes of pupils to neutral or even positive ones. As part of this diploma thesis, I am trying to use a didactic experiment to verify whether it is possible to achieve the same goals (dissolving misconcepts, broadening knowledge and changing attitudes) without using live reptiles with substitute didactic means (models, multiples) using a similar methodology based on the model of experiential learning .The theoretical part presents a model of experiential learning including teaching methods and didactic tools used within this model in the context of science education. Furthermore, there is an analysis of the thematic unit Reptiles in valid curricular documents and in natural history textbooks, which are used in elementary schools as the dominant source for the given thematic unit. From this point of view, it is appropriate to focus not only on species in the Czech Republic, but also to include exotic ones in the teaching, pupils can meet them in zoos or in hobby farms, or they are interesting from a biological, ecological and ethological point of view. The practical part contains a description of the research methodology, both scenarios of the implemented learning blocks, as well as the (adapted) original methodology of Mgr. Monika Baďuříková, thus adapted methodology without the use of living organisms. The effectiveness of the teaching and the comparison of the effectiveness of both models in the cognitive and affective domains will be evaluated based on the analysis of the pretest and posttest in the form of a list of five and a structured mind map. The results of the thesis will be used in further didactic research in the field, and especially in the implementation of the methodology in pedagogical practice. |
