| Description | Chronic venous insufficiency is an advanced chronic venous disease that leads to specific changes in the skin or subcutaneous tissue of the lower extremities due to venous hypertension. Therapy of chronic venous insufficiency focuses on reducing or eliminating the underlying venous hypertension, both by conservative means and by invasive or surgical methods. Methodology: we retrospectively analyzed hospital-based data for the period 2013–2022. Our cohort included 1722 operated patients with a principal diagnosis of I83 (primary lower extremity varicosity). We assessed the numbers in each year, the age and sex of the patients and their comorbidities. Results: in our cohort of 1722 operated patients with lower limb varicosity, more than two-thirds were women. The proportion of women was 72.5% and 27.5% were men. The increasing trend of the mean age of operated patients is quite evident. The value of the average age in 2013 was 52 years and in 2021 it was already 59, with a decrease of 56 years last year. In our analysed cohort, we also found a high prevalence of cardiovascular disease in almost half of the patients, 855 patients suffered from at least one cardiovascular disease, which is 49.65%. Our findings correlate with the latest available studies. |
