Description | Educational migration is one of the main components of migration as such. There is a huge number of places in the world where students from all over the world go. These places are characterized by the presence of large and popular universities attracting foreign students. A variety of economic, social, and societal reasons lead foreign students to choose universities abroad. There is a number of push and pull factors in the actual process of deciding whether a future university student chooses to study abroad. Main aim, in the example of Slovaks studying in the city of Brno, is to point out the motives and reasons for choosing to study abroad, as well as the push and pull factors that influence potential students during choosing a place of study. In fact, Slovak university students make up a relatively large share of the total number of university students in Brno, in some faculties even absolute numbers of Slovak students exceed Czech ones. The results showed that the most sought-after city among Slovak university students in the Czech Republic is the city of Brno. Based on the questionnaire investigation, the influence of the geographical distance of the place of residence and place of study was demonstrated, as most Slovak students come from geographically closer regions of the Slovak Republic. The main motive of university studies in the Czech Republic is the higher perceived quality of education and prestige of universities for Slovak students. |
