Description | If someone can not do theatre himself, he studies theatre science, decorates himself with scientific titles and writes vindictive articles about theatre. Similarly with music and musicology. Or with art and art historical studies. The author of this book has actively tried in every possible field of art, including ballet, but has not succeeded anywhere. Out of spite, he became an associate professor of literature and writes disparaging reviews of the works of the great contemporary Czech prose writers. Perhaps only Jaromír Slomek can be a degree more shy. If, despite this initial warning, you want to risk assassinating your common sense, you are in for an introductory Reading on the Art of Reading Beautifully. Followed by thirty reviews of thirty-three prose books. Next, three studies by the author: one literary, focusing on the children’s aspect in Czech prose from the 1960s, the second musicological, dealing with the poetics of Karel Kryl’s songs, and the third theatrological, on the quarter-century of the student ProFItheatre at the Faculty of Informatics of Masaryk University. The final appendix only adds three plums to the basket from the author’s childhood.
