Description | The article tells the oral tradition and the oral history of the "Mergen" tsorj or Genden tsorj, who was living in the Zakhchin Duke Banner monastery in the present-day Uyench sum of Khovd province. Only a little biographical information about this eminent monk survives, but there are many oral narratives about his wisdom and magic abilities. In the 1920s, Mergen Tsorj moved from Mongolia to Xinjiang under the leadership of Zakhchin Duke Gomboochir. In 1938, Ereen Khavirga restored Zakhchin monastery in Khar-usun. He died in 1944 or 1945. In the local oral tradition of Khar-usun, he is represented as one of the main characters of the Zakhchin migration. |
