Description | In 1900, Catholic publisher Josef Florián founded the publishing house and center of spiritual culture Dobré dílo in the Stará Říše village. The name Opus bonum was chosen by the Czech secular Catholic Association, which was founded in 1972 in Frankfurt am Main by Czechoslovak exiles as a community of people caring for the preservation and development of Czech and Slovak Christian culture. The founders of the association were: abbot Anastáz Opasek and theologian Vladimír Neuwirth. Since 1979, Opus bonum has been based in Munich organizing cultural and spiritual meetings and debates every year. One of the regular participants in those meetings was Czech singer-songwriter Karel Kryl, who had lived in exile since 1969. These originally spiritual meetings used to turn into unique debates and clashes of various currents within the Czechoslovak exile. After the events of 1989, the association is based at the Benedictine archabbey in the Prague-Břevnov. |
