Description | Introduction The tick (Ixodes ricinus) is a carrier of many medically important pathogens. The use of tick repellents is a key measure for health protection against ticks and the infectious diseases they carry. Repellents effectively reduce the risk of catching ticks and the transmission of pathogenic microorganisms, while the interest of the general public is directed towards natural-based repellents. Target The main goal of our work was to determine the repellent effectiveness of preparations based on extracts from various parts of the Curcuma longa plant in field conditions in the areas of natural occurrence of the common tick. The results When higher concentrations were used, the repellent efficiency was almost 100%, when very low concentrations were used, 68% or 75%. On June 21, 2022, a record number of ticks was caught during regular monitoring of tick activity at the location: 185 individuals per hour of flagging, of which 181 were nymphs. We are currently looking for a commercial partner for the further development of this natural-based repellent with the ultimate goal of launching it on the market. |
