Description | AIM Nutrition in childhood has a significant impact on health in adulthood. The aim of the study was to determine the eating habits of children from Blanski County (Czech Republic). This study presents compiled data obtained from parents of preschool children from the Křtiny commune. MATERIAL AND METHODOLOGY Using the questionnaire method, 32 mothers of preschool children attending kindergarten in the Křtiny commune, Blansko district in the Czech Republic were approached. The questions concerned the weight at birth and the length of the children, soothing, feeding, current habits and the children's health. This study includes and develops answers to only some questions about the habits of preschoolers. RESULTS It was found that 59.4% of preschool children consume milk and dairy products every day, and 40.6% of children occasionally. For 75% of children, the most favorite dairy product is yogurt. Most children (72%) eat wheat bread, only 20% eat whole grain bread and 8% eat bread made from rye flour. The most common meat product among preschool children is chicken (56.3%), followed by pork, fish and beef. Fruit is consumed by 78% of preschool children every day, and 22% of children occasionally. The most consumed type of fruit is apples. 47% of preschool children eat vegetables every day, 50% of children occasionally and 3% of mothers said that their child does not eat vegetables at all. The most commonly consumed type of vegetable is carrot. It was also found that the observed children drank an average of 1.3 liters of liquid every day. Children were most often given tea to drink (65.5% of children drink tea every day). The drinking regime of preschool-age children is good, first of all, thanks to the teachers and caregivers at the kindergarten who make sure that the children's drinking regime is followed. CONCLUSIONS While observing the eating habits of preschool children, it was found that most children consume dairy products on a daily basis. Consumption of whole grain and rye bread is low. Among meat products, most children eat chicken most often. The consumption of fish meat is insufficient. Fruit consumption is at a reassuring level, but it is striking to find that some children do not consume vegetables at all. The drinking regime of preschool children is good. |
