Description | Classical Antiquity is understood as a period, when the landscape for the first time in human history becomes not only ecological or environmental phenomenon, but also the social, aesthetic and artistic one. Following the civilizations of ancient Egypt and Middle East, Greeks and Romans were among the first ones, who created the cultural landscape. Its idea and perception was not very far away from our modern concept of landscape and its perception. The landscape was perceived as a phenomenon of nature, religion and art in the Graeco-Roman Antiquity. Besides the real landscapes ancient people invented also fictional landscapes reflecting their utopical ideas about way of life, society and exotics. The aim of our paper is to analyse and describe the relations between real (agricultural, military, urban, „industrial“) and fictional (bucolic, sacred, exotic, utopical, political) landscapes in the Graeco-Roman Antiuity and the impact of human activity on the landscape at that time in general. |
