Description | Developing a drug form containing bacteriophages is an essential step of phage therapy implementation in practice. A crucial criterion of the final phage product is phage stability in variant conditions, in which applied phages could be exposed during manipulation with the product (i.e., contaminations by microorganisms and drug additives). This work concerns phage titer stability during exposition to preservatives, yeast, and mold. We assessed the stability of a myovirus against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and a myovirus against Staphylococcus aureus. These purified phages were inoculated by Candida albicans or Aspergillus niger and stored at room temperature in six variant preservatives, including organic acids salts and alcohols. After 24 hours, the titer of phages was determined by a standard drop test. |
