Description BACH: Achievement tests are the original Czech battery of tests of reading and writing, mathematical skills, and graphomotor speed, designed for educational and clinical psychologists and special educators to examine clients from kindergarten to 22 years and seniors aged 55-80 years. The standardization sample comprised 1,411 respondents; data were collected between 2019 and 2022. The tests are co-normed with the Woodcock-Johnson IV COG intelligence tests for children and young adults and the TOMAL-SE memory test for seniors. The BACH focuses on reading skills, written expression, morphological and phonological competence, and visual discrimination. The mathematics part includes pre-numerical and mathematical skills tests, further divided into numerical proficiency, mathematical reasoning, and mathematical knowledge. The battery can be used, among other things, in the diagnostics of specific learning disabilities, particularly dyslexia and dyscalculia (including in secondary and university students), in the diagnostics of selected aspects of school readiness (and thus both the appropriateness of early schooling or, conversely, of school deferment), and in the examination of school failure in general. In the case of seniors, the tests can be used to assess cognitive disorders or in career counseling. In contrast to other similar methods available to the Czech user, the BACH battery is characterized by a wide age range of potential probands and advanced psychometric processing based on item response theory (IRT). Speed tests were parameterized using a log-normal IRT model, power tests using a Rasch model and latent class analysis, and norms were created using continuous norming methods. Many kinds of scores are available, supporting normative, criterion, and ipsative assessment. The battery is characterized by high reliability and good factor and criterion validity. There is no other similarly extensive method with similar content in the Czech Republic.
