Description | SHADOWBOX VOL. 1 is the first in a series of exhibition projects by Ester Hotová. The phenomenon of the slang term Shadowbox is pretending to argue about a proxy problem in order to avoid solving the main problem. This obfuscation of pressing realities is inherent in the political environment. The author's topic is Vulture Culture (an online subculture of amateur approaches to taxidermy and other preservation of naturally dead organic materials), where she works with biological remains that she adapts into entomological boxes. Ester Hotová (1994) is a Brno-based artist living in Vienna. She is studying a PhD programme at the MU Department of Art Education. In her dissertation she focuses on political comics. In her free work she oscillates between painting, illustration and installation of prepared biological material or Vulture Culture. |
