Description | The Janáček Theatre in Brno and the Leipzig Opera House have several common features, perhaps, the last of them is the famous revolving stage with a diameter of more than 17 meters. Both theatres have been linked by the history and development of urban space and the prestige that comes with designing a cultural landmark. This paper is a brief insight into the preparation phase of the two theatres mentioned above, influenced by the local infrastructure and historical development of the city, the political and social background, and the contemporary consideration of the representative function of the theatre building in the second half of the 20th century. By comparing both mentioned theatres I follow all the "non-theatrical" constraints which strongly affect the final shape of the building. |
