| Description | A set of lectures guides the audience through the entire life cycle of medicines. In the introductory lectures, the history of pharmacotherapy and basic terminology will be heard; then, we will focus on the research and development of drugs themselves: what needs to be done and completed before a new drug is introduced to the market and how the next stage continues when it begins to be widely used. Special attention is paid to the safety of medicines, side effects, how to recognize them, and how and to whom to report them. The basic differences between dietary supplements and medicinal products will be mentioned, and the basics of phytopharmacology, an overview of selected medicinal plants, how to use them, and what to watch out for will be presented. In subsequent lectures, the audience will learn how various factors can influence and change the effect and safety of drugs, e.g., dosage form, method of administration, and the patient's age or comorbidities. Last but not least, attention will be paid to information sources about medicines, how to find the relevant ones, where to ask questions, and how to get involved in the different phases of the life cycle of medicines, not only as a patient. |
