Description | Stone colony and surroundings 15.00 Scattered around Kamenka, a walk through Kamenná Colony expanded with a unique musical composition Michal Nejtek – The Stone Colony (2023) 60' The stone colony was created from the beginning of the 1920s as emergency housing for employees of Kohn's brick factory and later Beránka's gravel factory. Jiří Mahen writes nicely about it in his novel The Best Adventure. At the beginning of the eighties of the last century, artists and people who valued special togetherness and still did not want to give up city life began to move into small houses. It wasn't until the 1990s that the basic infrastructure was completed, the former grocery store became a Duckbar, and benches, the occasional gallery, and window and harness shops began to appear in the narrow streets. First, a fanfare will be heard over the Stone Colony in Brno, a brass band setting to music the workers' song Kluci ze Starák, which was sung by Flemish people in the brick pub in Vinohrady, but also at Viktor's or Djindžila's in Vídeňská. From this, and then from the rather sad song by Václav Málk Hodin za hodina, the site-specific material of Michal Nejtek's composition – The Stone Colony, which was commissioned by the festival and the BCO, is based. The brass instruments above Kolonka are joined by woodwinds, drums and recordings, which are scattered around the colony. Listeners can browse and create their own version of the song. The ordinary reality of a Sunday afternoon is enhanced by a musical experience and a bit of history associated with the location.
