Description | Zoonotic diseases (or zoonoses) are infectious diseases transmitted between alid animals. Free-living small mammals play an important role in maintaining zoonoses in nature. They are important reservoirs of infections known as "vector-borne diseases". The spread of these zoonotic agents is ensured by hematophagous arthropods, especially the Ixodes ricinus tick. The causative agents of such zoonotic diseases include, for example, bacteria belonging to the genus Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato, which causes the multisystemic disease Lyme disease. Lyme disease symptoms are very diverse and easily overlooked. If borreliosis is not treated properly and in time, months or years after infection, it can progress to a chronic nervous and joint form. In this research, we focused on a selected zoonotic disease agent of free-living small mammals around Brno. The aim was to compare the distribution of small mammals around the Žabčice landfill, the inhabited locality of the municipality of Ledce and the natural locality of the Moravian Karst PLA. On the basis of previous research and the available literature, we assumed that the mentioned pathogen would occur in small mammals, that is, apparently to a higher extent in the site of the landfill than in inhabited localities or protected landscape areas. zoonotic agent Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato40% of the examined 112 samples around the Žabčice landfill, u14% of the examined 59 samples of the inhabited locality of Ledce and only u3.3% of the examined 30 samples in the Moravský karst protected area. Our hypothesis is confirmed with a high probability. The most dangerous area for humans and animals is the above-mentioned three locations around the Žabčice landfill. |
