Description | In this chapter we reflect on some aspects of the broad issue of risks and side-effects of psychotherapy in the context of the systemic psychotherapy approach. We begin by noting how this topic was for a long time neglected by the psychotherapeutic profession, the possible conceptualizations of risks and side-effects of psychotherapy, what we know about its prevalence, and how can we measure it. We also focus on the issue of risks and side-effects in the context of the systemic psychotherapy and reflect on the epistemological challenges (constructivism, systems theory) and obstacles. Lastly, we present some qualitative research results from four focus group discussions with systemic family therapists. |
