Description | From infancy, two systems of categorization and thinking develop in parallel and independently: taxonomic and thematic. Both systems are probably related to the division of memory into semantic and episodic parts, or to a paradigmatic and narrative system of thought. The presented research tries to confirm or refute the relationship between thematic thinking and narrative competence. The research was conducted on preschool children (N = 60). Experimentally, the degree of preference for thematic or taxonomic, thinking and the ability to reproduce thematically arranged phrases. The influence of these variables on the ability to repeat a short story as a proxy of narrative competence was verified. A better ability to remember a taxonomically (rather than thematically) ordered list of phrases was found. The contribution will present the first results of the research. |
