Description | Newly diagnosed dilated cardiomyopathy (RODCM) poses a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge - some patients with this diagnosis achieve restoration of left ventricular (LV) function with treatment, while others do not. To date, there is no simple clinical or laboratory parameter to estimate the prognosis of a particular patient. Follistatin-like 1 (FSTL1), 4 (FSTL4) and 5 (FSTL5) proteins are cardiookines involved in myocardial regeneration and remodeling processes, whose expression changes after myocardial infarction. Plasma levels of FSTL1 are elevated in patients with heart failure, while levels of FSTL4 and FSTL5 have not yet been determined in patients with heart failure. Given their biological roles, the aim of this study was to evaluate whether plasma levels of these proteins predict recovery of left ventricular function in patients with RODCM. |
