Description The paper focuses on the phenomenon of interlanguage transfer in the context of the process of learning a second foreign Slavic language. Thus, the influence of the already acquired language on a new language of the same language family and the influence of these languages in the consciousness. The paper presents not only the existing research on language transfer and interference but also provides insight into the educational system of the field. Bohemian Studies of the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, which is briefly introduced and whose selected students participated in the research investigation. The first part of the paper defines the terms language interference and transfer and describes the causes of its emergence while also briefly mentioning the specifics of the Czech and Slovak language along with their similarities and differences. Subsequently, the results are presented in a case study, which was based on qualitative data collection (observation and document analysis, where the method of error analysis was used) among students of Bohemian Studies - field of study Czech language, literature, and culture at the University of Belgrade. The selected respondents study not only Czech language but also Slovak language as an elective subject. The thesis will present the data obtained, reveal what negative transfer the students face, and offer ways to prevent negative transfer in the learning process, thus increasing the effectiveness of language acquisition.
