Description | Margarita Melkina, Lida Yusupova, and other writers who focus on capturing the lesbian experience within their works have published their texts in several anthologies of short stories (Lesbiyskaya proza, Liberty-layf etc.), as well as in individually published works, primarily towards the end of the first decade of the 21st century. This generation of female writers brings their perspective on the place of homosexual literary characters within the context of contemporary Russian literature. However, lesbian heroines have only become fully integrated into “serious” literature in recent years. The study describes the formation of Russian lesbian literature and the possibilities of publishing texts with lesbian themes, with an emphasis on the last two decades. Attention is primarily focused on the conditions in which lesbian literature has evolved in Russia and an outline of the current situation. |
