Description | The paper is based on the concept of the cultural iceberg (1976, Edward T Hall). In contrast to textbooks that emphasize "Big C" culture themes, the authors of the paper, who teach French, Russian and Spanish, offer possible approaches to managing the differences arising from "Small C" culture. They address how to prevent communication failures in different social situations. Students may encounter culture clashes when studying cultural concepts, and the role of the teacher should be to motivate them to master communication styles and rules and to provide them with a way to avoid culture shock. The presentation presents concrete model examples based on content analysis of video posts by vloggers and youtubers in the three languages mentioned above. |
