Description The Knížecí les forest between Židlochovice, Nosislav and Přísnotice towns was until recently the traditional winter roosting site of Rooks (Corvus frugilegus) and Western Jackdaws (Coloeus monedula). This paper summarises all observations from roosting sites in the Židlochovice region in the years 1994–2019. In this period, three roosting places were found, about 2–3 km from each other. These were deciduous stands dominated by ash trees or poplars. If we do not count the last two winters, when the birds were already present here only in small numbers, the observed numbers of roosting birds reached a minimum of 15,000 and a maximum of between 90,000 and 100,000 birds with an average of about 40,000 wintering birds. Since the winter of 2011/2012, when flocks of rooks and jackdaws roosted for the first time in Brno, there has been a noticeable decrease in the number of birds near the town of Židlochovice, and the last roosting of about 500 birds was recorded in the winter of 2018/2019. From the historical data, it follows that this roosting site existed for about 120 years.
