Description | At the end of the 1940s, a wave of many thousands of refugees made their way from civil war-torn Greece to Czechoslovakia. About thirty years later, a political change took place in Greece, allowing the refugees to return to their homeland. In the meantime, however, a new generation of Greeks had grown up in Czechoslovakia who either did not remember their parents' country or had never even visited it. This article is set within the theoretical framework of return migration research. It traces differences in the presentation of actors' narratives of motivations to migrate back "home" It also touches on the research field of transnationalism, addressing the question of whether narrators maintain some form of cross-border ties to the country from which they migrated. |
