| Description | Town savings banks and credit unions established to support Czech business began to build their buildings in Bohemian and Moravian towns, especially in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The paper focused on both the architectural typology and functional use, which was often broader than a simple office "bank" building. On the other hand, it focused on the representative aspect of the buildings, style and decoration. This was particularly exclusive for some of the buildings in Czech district towns and often drew its themes from local history. It cannot be overlooked that, especially in Moravia, the buildings of the municipal savings banks were created under the influence of the Germanophone town leadership, while the savings banks in general were part of the economic emancipation of the Czechophone population, which was also reflected in their formal appereance. |
