Citation
Description In Czechia, academic degrees (all of them types of qualifications) are obtained in a rigid order. For example, the degree Bc. (roughly equivalent to bachelor) is obtained first, and it is marked as a prefix. The equivalent of Master is acquired after that, and it is marked again as a prefix, namely Mgr. It is relevant to note that Mgr. replaces Bc., rather than stacking on top of it; thus, despite two qualifications obtained, only a single degree marker is found. In the talk, I explore the possibility that overriding (and the lack thereof) can be explained as a regular application of phrasal spellout.
