| Description | Antipsychotics (AP) are primarily intended for the treatment of psychotic disorders (the individual loses control of reality, there is a disturbance of perception and thinking), APs are also the drugs of choice for suppressing restlessness, agitation, aggression not only in psychoses, but also in dementia and mental retardation, delirium , acute reactions to stress and motor disorders. More recently, APs are beginning to be more widely used in the treatment of bipolar depressive disorder, in the thymoprophylaxis of bipolar affective disorder, in the augmentation of antidepressant therapy and resistant anxiety states. We can also meet with AP in unmanageable insomnia, in the treatment of painful conditions and other conditions. |
