| Description | The legal culture of medieval and early modern Brno is closely connected with the so-called Brno Municipal (i.e. the law book of the notary Jan from the middle of the 14th century and its later redactions), which is characterized by significantly Romanized content. One of its provisions then explicitly deals with the relationship of learned rights (ius commune) to the "domestic" sources of Brno municipal law in the event of their mutual collision. However, the question arises as to how not only this provision was reflected in contemporary practice and what role the Roman, or it actually belonged to canon law in Brno. The answer to this question is offered to the professional public by a lesser-known Brno city book from the pre-White Mountain period, the study of which yields surprising results. |
