| Description | The collection of 5 policy papers represents the output of the applied research project entitled South Caucasus at the Intersection of Interests, which was realized in the years 2021-2022. The individual policy papers were prepared for the needs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The individual analyses were devoted to the following topics: Present and future engagement of the EU and other international actors in the South Caucasus conflicts, with a focus on Georgia (Policy Paper 1); Conflicts in the South Caucasus region and their implications for Czech foreign policy: The cases of Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict (Policy paper 2); Analysis of the security situation in the South Caucasus and the wider Black Sea region, with a view to the possibility of formulating a general EU strategy for the South Caucasus region (Policy paper 3); Economic and trade relations of major international actors in the South Caucasus region (Policy paper 4); Oil and gas supply to Central Europe from the South Caucasus: status quo, opportunities and risks; The role of the South Caucasus countries in the transit of energy supplies from Central Asia (Policy paper 5). The aim of the individual analyses was to map the actions of international actors, institutions/organisations (mainly the EU, but also the Russian Federation, Turkey, China and others) in relation to Georgia and its separatist regions, as well as in relation to Armenia, Azerbaijan and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The analyses were also devoted to a comprehensive mapping of the security situation in the South Caucasus and the Black Sea region, the trade and economic relations of the South Caucasus countries with regard to major external actors (the EU, Russia, China, Turkey and others) and, last but not least, the topic of energy security with regard to the importance of the South Caucasus countries in the international oil and gas trade. |
