Description The paper discusses the beginning of female bildungsroman in the Czech culture between the 1860s and 1870s and recognises the process of establishing its main hermeneutic codes concerning gender, nation, and class. Firstly, I investigate the historical substantiation of conduct fiction for the women as embedded into the literary culture of Czech nationalism and the early stages of establishing systematic education for the girls.
