Description | The paper "Stereotypes about Czechs and Foreigners in Contemporary Czech Prose" focuses on the portrayal of stereotypes in works by Czech authors set in foreign environments. It is based on analyses of selected works by Anna Cima, Dita Táborská, and Josef Pánek from the years 2013 to 2022, examining both heterostereotypes (perceptions of other nations) and autostereotypes (perceptions of Czechs). The texts exhibit both positive and negative stereotypical depictions, not only of foreigners but also of Czechs. In some cases, stereotypes serve specific literary functions, such as character development. The paper offers an overview of selected literary works and highlights the interdisciplinary potential of exploring stereotypes in the context of literature and cultural studies. |
