Description | The work of a museum educator is very varied, which results not only from the breadth of his or her work activities, but also from the profile of the particular museum in which he or she works. Many museums have collections that go far beyond the focus of one central theme or one discipline. Many museum educators work in regional, local history museums that have a thematic and disciplinary "mixed" collections, and in their collecting, research and presentation activities they simultaneously convey several themes and disciplines to the public. In a museum with a broader profile, the museum educator is expected to be able to naturally navigate these often very different distant topics and to achieve adequate didactic knowledge of them, which is then passed on to visitors, while at the same time being able to maintain the integrity of the museum's educational mission. The museum's audience is also varied, which for direct education is not only school groups, but also other segments of the audience that the museum educator is addressing. The eighth annual conference of the Committee for Public Relations and Museum Pedagogy of the Czech Association of Museums and Galleries is looking at several aspects that are related to diversity in museum education and play a crucial role in the spectrum of museum educator activities. The conference opens with three thematic sessions: education in museums with mixed collections; experience, emotions and taboos in museum education; education targeted at groups other than schools. |
