Description | The concept of harmony in the thought of Johannes Kepler (1571–1630) is elaborated in his Harmonices mundi (1619) from the final period of the author's life. Kepler works with the concept of the harmony of the worlds, and hence the music of the spheres, which has been rethought and transformed again and again since antiquity. In what ways does he build on the works of earlier thinkers, and in what ways does he transform or contradict the original concepts? The paper will present the geometrical and astrophysical correlations of Kepler's conception, as well as its aesthetic and philosophical implications. Furthermore, it will be shown in what sense can Kepler's approach to harmony be beneficial for contemporary aesthetic. |
