Description The article describes a case of a ten-months-old Main coon kitten, who was referred to a secondary cardiologic surgery with the findings of a “ subcutaneous heart” and heart murmur. After establishing a diagnosis of sternal septal cleft with herniation of the heart and liver, the patient was referred for surgical correction of the defect. This defect was of the nature of a common manubrium sterni fused with the second and third sternebrae in the shape of a ypsilon and subsequently the sternebrae were duplicated with the formation of a wide cleft in which there was herniation of the heart and liver. Perioperatively, the absence of the ventral part of the diaphragm was revealed. This symptomatology correlates with the definition of Cantrell's pentalogy. A simple method of closure of a visceral hernia resulting from a sternal cleft is described. The short-term effect of the procedure (5 months) is satisfactory. The long-term effect cannot be commented on at present
