Description In this article, the experience of the department in the management of complications of permanent cardiac pacing in dogs, cats and rabbits in the period 2008–2023 is presented in the form of three case reports. The most common problems after pacemaker implantation include early (within 7 days) wound infection (at the site of electrode entry into the vein and/or in the area of the subcutaneous pocket for pacemaker placement), hematoma or infection of the subcutaneous pocket of the pacemaker, dislocation and/or fracture and/or torsion of the electrode. The case reports describe methods of treating the most serious complication, infection of the subcutaneous pacemaker pocket in dogs. The key to preventing infection and inflammation of the pacemaker pocket is to avoid compromising the integrity of the skin in the area of the subcutaneous pocket. In the case of swelling in the pacemaker pocket area, it is advisable to perform the diagnostic puncture only in an already functional antibiotic screen (on day 2 or 3 of ATB administration) and under strict asepsis. If, despite everything, the wound becomes purulent, reimplantation with removal of the old system is the best possible solution in terms of time and money.
