Description | A healthy lifestyle is a common trend these days and the consumption of food supplements is part of this lifestyle. These dietary supplements are usually composed of carbohydrates as a fast energy source (fructose, glucose, sucrose) and a slow energy source (Palatinose, maltodextrins). As excipients in pharmaceutical forms (lactose) and as a functional drug (lactulose), sugars are an integral part of pharmacy. HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) in a HILIC (Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography) mode with a polyhydroxy stationary phase can by advantageously used for carbohydrates separation and determination. The ELS (Evaporative Light-Scattering) detector is an alternative to the well-known refractive index for analytes without a suitable UV-Vis chromophore. |
