| Description | Ascertaining the intent of the founder as expressed in the founding instrument of a foundation or trust is not easy. If the settlor is no longer "among the living", it may be considered appropriate to have certain interpretive "clues" which may be of a different legal nature. Examples include the interpretive preambles of such documents, or the now "fashionable" family constitutions, letters of wishes, or other instruments of the law of obligations, which may assist in interpreting the settlor's will. |
